Jianye Yan is now a full professor at College of Economics and Management, China Agricultural University.
Previously he worked at Alibaba & Ant Group as a senior economist. Before joining Alibaba & Ant Group, he was an associate professor in the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking (Beijing) University, China and an associate professor and the deputy head of Department of Finance in School of Banking and Finance at University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, China. He earned his PhD from Toulouse School of Economics, France, in 2011.
His research is mainly in two fields. One is market design (also includes topics of industrial organization and practice of regulation), which exhibits his training obtained from Toulouse School of Economics; and one is theory and empirics in banking and corporate finance. In Alibaba & Ant Group, Jianye Yan also inputs some effort in the topic of mechanism, regulation and empirics in digital economy.
Jianye Yan writes and publishes academic papers on economics and finance both in theoretical contributions and empirical analyses. He has published 12 papers in English and 20 papers in Chinese, where many of the former were at world-class top journals in economics, such as American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Journal of Public Economics, Energy Economics, Economic Inquiry, Economics Letters. His co-authored paper “A Pseudo-Market Approach to Allocation with Priorities” published at American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, as an important theoretical finding on market design, won the American Economic Association “Best Paper Award” 2019, which awards and highlights the best paper published in each of the American Economic Journals: Applied Economics, Economic Policy, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics over the last three years; Jianye Yan is the first recipient of this distinctive award among who work full-time in China.
Besides the papers listed in his CV, Jianye Yan also has abundant experience in research projects. During last 7 years, he led (PI) 6 research projects and 4 teaching projects, some of which were already successfully completed. Among them, his project funded by the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) was awarded “excellent accomplishment”.
